For years my spouse's system has had two 19" Dell monitors, both connected to an ATI FireGL V3350 card which has two DVI connections. Works great as extended display with DisplayFusion on Windows 7/64-bit.
This is an office system; we have no gaming level demands on video performance.
Now she would like a third monitor (we have another identical Dell model) and my attempt to add another video card (Radeon HD 4350) PCIe 1x failed miserably. It automatically disabled the ATI card and I had to use System Restore to undo my mistake.
The Gigabyte motherboard supports 2 PCI-E 2.0 x16 with ATI CrossFireX (one slot has the ATI FireGL card, one is open).
My question is - can I add another card to support a third (extended) monitor and would an identical video card be needed/desired?
BTW, in case there's a single card able to drive all three displays, they only have VGA and DVI connections, not HDMI, so I assume a card with HDMI out would require an adapter. Does that work well?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
