I have a maddening problem with zero-byte folders on backup media, of which I must have at least ten TB spread over numerous external devices. Zero-byte folders are frustrating because they may have simply had data deleted, which could be restored in a matter of minutes, or they could be phantom folders which bear the name of an earlier and legitimate backup but which has since been intentionally erased, folder and all. I suspect the latter, but I would be interested to hear if anyone else has the same problem.
My everyday backup program (for multiple computers) is now exclusively Acronis TI (several versions), some versions of which insist on putting the backup in a folder and others of which treat them as files only, which are actually easier to track. My many empty folders bear the names of legitimate backups, but the folders themselves are apparently empty. Have others encountered this?
Can anyone suggest a simple way of cataloguing backup locations?
