Dabbled with CP/M and 8" floppies then onto an IBM-PC 5150 with Lotus 1-2-3 and Peachtree accounting. Wow, what an amazing difference. Totally changed my direction in life. :)

Does Internet Explorer work okay in Safe Mode with Networking?

Try resetting IE back to its original defaults. In IE, click Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset... button. Select "Delete personal settings", click the Reset button, then restart IE and...
Wow, thanks buddy! The reason it worked is apparently whomever's DNS servers you were using weren't working correctly . . . and Google's free DNS servers (184.108.40.206 & 220.127.116.11) are. :)
If you're NOT behind a company firewall, try changing your DNS servers to:
(here's a how-to for Windows 7)
and then see if you can get to the regular URLs:

If that doesn't work, try changing your DNS servers to:
(Google's free DNS servers).
At the bottom right of the "Quick Reply" box, click the "Go Advanced" button and you'll get a bit larger Reply window.
