That was very useful, thank you.
Before I discovered the correct way (through Personalise the desktop) to get a shortcut to This PC, I created a shortcut to it.
I discovered, when clicking on the shortcut's Properties and then...
In Windows 8.1, Cool Edit Pro would record any audio being played in, for instance, VLC Player, or any audio being played on a web site. It doesn't do so any longer.
I have no idea why.
Ah, that explains it well. Thank you.
That looks like another good one, thank you.
I have now put shortcuts to getairmail and 10minutemail on my desktop, next to my normal email...
Thank you Timeless Tech.
Abine doesn't do themselves any favours. They are much better at displaying pretty graphics than they are at clear explanations. I don't understand how their masking...
Thank you Joe. I don't use any of those services. I did use Outlook Express on my XP machines.
Since I am satisfied with Yahoo, and AirMail looks interesting, I hope that I don't need to look...
Yes, that was it.
That looks promising. I will try it.
Having read the details of many disposable email services, I see nothing as simple as the extinct one whose name escapes me.
It might be simple, but Mailinator's own convoluted description puts...
Thank you Paul. That's still too complicated for me.
Your good health, Syncopator.
Yes satrow, I have created a few disposable ones in Yahoo mail, but the site to which I referred was so much simpler.
Yes, that's one of many which I read. They are all too complicated.
A few Windows Secrets Newsletters ago one of the regular columnists (sorry I have forgotten who you were) gave a link to a disposable email address facility. It was a model of simplicity to use.
I've read a few methods which supposedly do what I want(ed) during boot up but none of them have worked.
After much searching of the internet and testing of my patience I eventually found a method. ...
One wonders how Microsoft can provide an installation file (the ISO) which can't be loaded into the target machine
Why does the machine detect the function key but not the other keys?...
The Escape key doesn't seem to do anything. F9 produces the screen I was looking for, but it asks for the Enter key to enter what I select with the + or - keys.
But those keys don't respond. ...
Thank you Coochin.
So the 9 files already on the disc are the contents of the ISO "file".
It was not in my Downloads folder, or anywhere else as far as I could see, so I rescued it from the Temporary Burn...
Thank you Bruce. I think I misread the article, so I started again.
11 files appear on the disc, as shown on the screenshot. The last 2 are apparently waiting to be written to it - whatever that...
Apropos Fred Langa's item in the current Newsletter about creating a bootable setup d.v.d.
The downloaded creation tool is an exe file. How do I burn an ISO file with it?
Thank you Jerry.
I also asked for help on MajorGeeks, and have now found that disabling an entry in the Context Menu list cures the problem.
The thread is here...
I don't yet know how to disable Classic Shell, but yes, there is a forum. I shall ask there.
It's a new machine with few applications added. There's Classic Shell, CCleaner, McAfee Live Safe (preinstalled), RoboForm, Mailwasher Pro and JV16 Power Tools.
There's usually no disc...
I have used Classic Shell so that I bypass the Fisher Price graphics and go straight to the log-in page (4 digit p.i.n.), and then to the desktop.
I don't know if the right click delay is a result...
That's cured it Joe.
Thank you so much for the time you have spent helping me.
Thank you for responding, I was beginning to give up hope.
Yes I did ack, but I had no idea how to use it.
The result is below:
