It wouldn't do any harm but did you check the power options to see what the power button actually does?
Were the cards formatted as NTFS on another system?
Another thing to check is power options in the control panel particularly the option for what the power button does (I don't have an XP system so can't give the exact wording)

Well, when autohide is enabled on my PC this is the search box which you can't type anything into :rolleyes:
It doesn't work if you have the taskbar set to autohide though!
