Thanks for that, Joe.
It's set Task Scheduler to start automatically, as I wanted, but the options in the Properties box remain greyed out.
Any idea why this should be so, is there some policy...

I've just set up a scheduled task to update Windows defender. I use Avast AV, but Defender keeps reminding me to update, so I'm following the advice of an earlier post to set up this task.
It didn't...
Thanks, chowur. I found that SnagIt Editor was responsible for the message so I unticked snagit in msconfig and then altered the preferences to prevent the editor from running.
Seems to have done...
Just recently my XP Pro has begun to display this box after starting up;
35274
The box persists for some time irrespective of which tick box I use, and I can't access anything else on the PC....
I use WDO occasionally and bbearen's description is how I do it, but a wired internet connection seems to be essential - I can't update if the PC is using a wireless adapter.
The confusion arising...
Windows 7 Firewall Control by Sphinx Software works well with the built in firewall to control outgoing traffic. It often interrupts installs when they access the web to update or visit a welcome...
I switched just as version 8 came out (about a month ago).
Main reason for switching was the awkward update method for MSE. I don't use automatic update, I like to choose what and when I install...
I changed from MSE to Avast on both W7 and W8. No problems, but watch out for the sneaky add-ons Avast offer you.
Also you'll find Avast now includes a software updater prog, which some dislike....
I tried several of the offerings but decided StartisBack was the best of them, and I now use it.
I, too, am surprised it isn't mentioned in the article.
Just for info, I installed W8 on a second partition as an upgrade to a W7 OS on the first partition.
W8 let me do this, but on booting into W7 it had been 'demoted' to unactivated, and I would have...
It works fine on my PC, except for one irritation.
I use RoboForm V6 and while it was OK with IE9, it now loads passwords but not the username, which I then have to fill manually.
I should...
How old's your battery? They don't last forever.
Just beat me... I made 93!
Success. I googled the device ID of the Ethernet adapter, found the Intel website and downloaded a new driver, which replaced the MS generic that W8 had installed.
Not only have I had no problems...
I dual boot win7 & Win8. I have no problems with W7, but , like Medico, I often have no internet connection when starting W8 and have to run the troubleshooter, which resets the Ethernet adaptor...
I had similar problems to your 1) & 2). I have just installed the ie10 preview, and this seems trouble free (so far).
Avast has been a favourite of mine for some time. I now use the latest version with Win8 Pro x64 and have not had any problems.
I have used AVG, MSE and several others in the past, even back to...
Using VPN isn't difficult, I use VPNReactor, which provides free 30 minute slots and is really easy to set up.
It may not be relevant to your problem, but I occasionally get the same response to SRH, so I first check that there are indeed no programs still accessing the device, then I right click it in...
Finally got in touch with Verbatim. Apparently it's an advanced form of drive allocation, they sent me a small exe file that gave me the option to reformat it as one drive with one partition, which...
"Hiding" them doesn't "stop" them!
I'm running Win7Ult and Win8Pro (dual booting).
Both see the external unit as two drives, not just two partitions. Couldn't be Verabatim packaging two hard drives in an enclosure could it?
I'll...
Thanks for the info.
I did exactly what the manual said. In Disk Management I deleted the two FAT32 partitions then realised I still had two drives and no way to combine them, so I couldn't create a...
Tried that, F.U.N. speeded things up quite a bit. Can't really understand why though.
Anyway, thanks for the help.
I got this as a Christmas present, it's 3Tb!
It comes with two seperate partitions, one 2Tb, the second the remainder, formatted in Fat32.
I don't want two seperate partitions, I want just one...
