    You could first use a bootable live Windows CD, like Bart PE ( http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ ) and then first check and backup the hard disk. You could then try a repair install, like mentioned before.

    You could try to run the chkdsk /f in the Recovery console. This will get rid of the dirty flag on the disk and should get the defragger satisfied.

    As long as you make sure that you don't assign the same address to your laptop as your primary computer, you should be able to ping the gateway and the primary computer as well. Have a nice trip!

    Indeed I installed FC4 with the bootloader. It did detect Windows properly and booting XP was not the problem. In the mean time I did a reinstall of Windows and managed to reboot a number of times...

    I did not uninstall Fedora, since I feel that it just allocates diskspace and does not have any connection with the Windows environment. A system restore did not work, but I did not try a repair yet.
