  1. Re: Allowing limited access to records via a form (Access 97)

Have a query as the recordsource of your form (i.e. the first property when you show all properties of the form). It can either be a distinct query that you've created separately (so the the name of...

Re: New MSKB article (WIn XP Home-Pro)

This would have been more amusing 5 or 10 years ago. These days, I'd consider that to be perfectly reasonable advice (although if you're having that problem you'll have difficulty getting to MSKB to...
  3. Re: Allowing limited access to records via a form (Access 97)

I'm puzzled why you would be using the On Apply Filter event. If you really want to do it with filters, why not just set the Filter directly? However, from the point of view of maintaining the code,...

    Re: Scrambled Data (2000)

I don't have an answer for most of your stuff, but in answer to a split database needing compacting; yes it does. A lot of record manipulation (i.e. additions, deletions, etc) will make compacting...

    Re: Sharing Database (Access 97)

I no longer have A97 so I'm hazy on the exact menu location (however, I've done it many times in both A97 and A2000 - it's just the menu location that is different). I'm pretty sure in A97 the...

    Re: Sharing Database (Access 97)

Even if you're not ready to distribute the frontend to individual users, you should still split your database into a frontend and backend for reliability (in my experience, if something gets...
  7. Re: Allowing limited access to records via a form (Access 97)

It's a lot easier if you have set up workgroup security (since you can just use currentuser() to get the current user). If by database-level security you mean that all you have done is set a database...

Re: 'Access Lock File' (A2K, SR1)

It should disappear when you close your database (unless your database crashes, or someone else is still using the database). If you are SURE no one else is using your database (and that you haven't...

    Re: Leap Year (97 sr2)

Mea maxima culpa! I engaged my fingers before I put my brain in gear. <img src=/S/nuts.gif border=0 alt=nuts width=15 height=15>

Of course your expression will work (barring bugs, of course)....

    Re: Leap Year (97 sr2)

That works provided the year isn't 1800, 1900, 2100, 2200, 2300, 2500, etc. i.e. your expression doesn't take the century rule into account (century years must be divisible by 400 to be leap years).
  11. Re: Max num of fields in a table (97 Sr2)

However, as I recall there is a also maximum record size in A97 that does not include the size of your memo and OLE fields, so if you have lots of large text fields you'll run into problems before...

Re: Working in shared db (2000)

Then, to be blunt, I don't think your IS folks have had to fix very many "broken" databases! <img src=/S/puke.gif border=0 alt=puke width=60 height=15>

Have you addressed the issue with them...

Re: Working in shared db (2000)

Correct. If someone is using a database you can't make changes to forms, reports, etc in that same database. The only way around it is to split the database into a separate front-end and back-end,...
  14. Re: Opening forms in Dialogue mode (Access 97 Win2k)

Very minor nitpicky correction. The code that called the dialog form will continue after the dialog form is closed or made invisible. Making the form invisible lets subsequent code retrieve the...

    Re: Access Security (2000)

    Have you overlooked something? Definitely

You should not set up security using the original default workgroup, as you almost certainly did (if you don't know about workgroups or don't think you...
  16. Re: File Format Not Recognised - Corrupt Database (Access 97 - SR2B)

In addition to the other's comments, you should split your database (if you haven't already) into a frontend and backend. At least in my experience, it is almost always the frontend that goes south,...

    Re: Multiple Orders (97/2K)

You indicate that you are using Access 97 and 2000. An observation (this is not the only solution, and might not even be the best solution) - you have an option in A2000 that you don't have in A97;...

Re: nz function (Win ME/Access 97)

You're getting confused over what fields can hold vs. what variables can hold. As I said, there is no such thing as a variant field; a numeric or string field can hold a null value. A variant...

Re: nz function (Win ME/Access 97)

There's no such thing as a variant field. There is a variant variable type.

Yes, it will work on text, number, datetime, etc. fields. It doesn't make much sense to use it on a non-variant...
  20. Re: Selectively Locking Fields on a Continuous Form (Access 2000)

I use On Current code frequently for other things. As long as your code is simple, I don't believe you'll see significant slowdowns using it to lock/unlock records.
  21. Re: Some queries/reports don't update (2000/9.0.3821 SR1)

Have you checked whether they appear when you run the queries directly?

You mention adding new records to "one or more of the tables". What kind of join do you have between the tables? The default...

It's in the Access 2000 help. Go to visual basic (Alt-F11), bring up the help, and use the index to find clng.
  23. Re: Control Split Across Two Pages (Access 2000)

There's a couple of places you can go, depending on the exact structure of your report.

Or if the database is too big to conveniently e-mail in toto, import the report into a new, empty database, e-mail that, then import into your home database.

Re: Spy Software for IE (IE 6.0)

Ad-aware is free, and works well to delete spyware from your machine.

See http://www.lavasoftusa.com/. I also second Charlotte's suggestion about Zonealarm (also free).
