I do not feel that attachments should be permitted.

Not sure how attachments might interact with auntie-virus software and I don't want to find out the hard way.

How does everybody else feel on this?
Would a special moderated forum, where all uploads are vetted by the Admin before being freed for display, be an acceptable alternative?

    That's just asking for trouble.

The moderator could be exposed to liability if allowing a virus/worm to slip thru.

And even if no legal liability, there could be problems.

    Re: Attachments

I have a trap in place that presently disallows uploads of following filetypes: .EXE .PHP .ASP .JS .VBS .SHT.

Do you think it would be better to only allow .ZIP .TXT .GIF .JPG .JPEG .BMP and make them zip up everything else?

    Re: Attachments

    Hi Eileen:
Yes. Even though I have DSL, I think it's good to conserve bandwidth in general. If you're going to allow attachments, limiting them to zip, txt, & graphics is a good idea.

    Re: Attachments

That's one in favor of tighter restrictions.
Any more of you guys like to give an opinion on the subject?

I Don't think attachments should be allowed.
Attachments are frowned upon in newsgroups and email lists, why should the forum be any different?

    Re: Attachments

Limiting by fil extension is meaningless.
Remember the LoveBug (or some similar name).

Would not limiting the VBS extension have helped to stop it?
