Pay no attention to Howard - his middle name is Oscar.

I see Howard's gone from stranger to newbie. I wonder what comes next.

I prefer stranger, it's more appropriate.

Re: Attachments

I believe your trap covers the "dangerous" attachments, and as long as Admin keeps up with F-Secure or NAV postings to grab anything new, it should be sufficient.

You may wish to include a disclaimer at Main Index warning visitors that attachments may be part of standard posts.

I don't know the feasibility of the following suggestion, but possibly a text view option available on main index page which disables all links/attachments, etc. for those such as Howard who are either concerned with bandwidth, don't keep current AV, or just plain prefer not to be bothered with the cutesy stuff?

All good ideas. I'll try and implement them.

Re: Attachments

Yes, I had a count down to retirement for a long time. At work I used a year 2000 type screen saver and everyone wanted a copy so they could set it up for their retirement.
I retired Jan 1, 2000 and it has been nice. I have the time to follow Eileen at several boards and give her a bad time.
These seven day weekends are real nice. I have set the alarm clock three times, this was to get someone to the airport.
But look out, the "Honey DO" list will start getting larger and larger.
Hope retirement is not to far off for you. Everyone will get there sooner or later.

""Honey DO" list will start getting larger"
I say, that's quite true without the retirement!

Ah, that's because your womenfolk are concerned that you won't feel like the spare at the .

Re: Attachments

I'm OK with attachments, but I have a very good anti-virus program that I keep up to date, so I've never been blind-sided by an attachment. Maybe a separate forum for the attachments would be the best compromise. Would it be possible to embed a link in the Lounge message itself once the attachment had been cleared for take-off?

Re: Attachments

I don't think we need to go to those lengths. I'll restrict the uploads to zips and images and assume people will have the common sense to scan them before opening.

I agree, until one proves us wrong we need to have a little trust. We can NOT hold everybodys hand on everything.

Re: Attachments

If you are so concerned about legal liability, why is there no disclaimer on your highly advertised http://www.standards.com/ipusers/standards/ ?

How do we know there's no virus lurking in your Technical Papers #1 & #4?

How come you don't advertise in every one of your posts in microsoft.public.word.vba.general ?

Just thinking out loud.

Re: Attachments

I agree that executable attachments should be kept off the board.

As an alternative, the message originator could easily post a URL to a file, perhaps on something like DriveSpae. This would have the advantage of keeping down message traffic and disk requirements on the board.

The Preview/Attach file screen could have a text box for URL entry or you could add a HREF button to the side.

Lots of other ways to insert text into a message, though, I don't know what your maximum message size is.
