    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Can Shrink will only work if there is no vertical overlap between the controls. Check carefully that the controls don't overlap even the tiniest little bit.

    Hans,
Thank you very much - that's exactly what the problem is! As I am fixing it, I notice that even when it suppresses the field, it doesn't seem to suppress the space between them, and leaves a little bit larger space between one nonblank field and the next. I'm trying to be really careful to snug them up without overlapping them. Is there a way to change the view to 400% like you can in Crystal?
Many thinks for your help. Is there a way to give you a star?

Unfortunately, there is no way to zoom in to a report in design view (only in print preview). You can inspect the Top and Height properties of the controls, but of course that is more work...

(Thank you, there's no need to give me a star - Woody's Lounge doesn't work like that)

I've figured out another way to accomplish that. I selected all the fields, then in the format menu, first I spaced them all equally (Format-Vertical Spacing-Make Equal) then I used Format-Vertical Spacing-Decrease until I couldn't see any space between them. Apparently Access can snudge them together really close without overlapping them. Works great!
    Thank you for your help on this. Have a great weekend! <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
