    Formatting Cells (2007)

I preformatted my different rows of data in excel before i entered everything so this way i wouldn't have to worry about converting it after. Well, everytime i write something in a "general" cell, it makes it a percentage! What the heck?! See for yourself...

any ideas on how to fix this?

There's an option in Excel for automatic percent entry. It must be somewhere in Excel Options in Excel 2007, but I don't know exactly where. Try toggling this option.

In Excel 2007, the option for automatic percent entry is under:
    Excel Options
    Advanced

The checkbox 'Enable automatic percent entry' is in the 'Editing Options' section and is normally on (checked) by default.

However, I don't think this is likely to relate to the reported issue.
The 'Enable automatic percent entry' relates to cells that have already been formatted as 'percent'.
If a cell has been formatted as percent, then..
With the 'Enable automatic percent entry' checked:
    entering a number less than 1, e.g. .45 results in 45%;
    entering 3 results in 3%
    entering 12 results in 12%

With the 'Enable automatic percent entry' unchecked:
    entering .25 results in 25%
    entering 7 results in 700%

So, my thinking is that there is something else that is changing the data entered from general into percentage format.
Perhaps an 'onEntry' routine or some other VBA?

Thanks for the Excel 2007 info.

I know that the "Enable automatic percent entry' option is not directly responsible for the behavior John describes, but I found a suggestion somewhere in the newsgroups that toggling this option a few times may cure his problem.

Your idea of looking for VBA code is a good one. John would have to look for code in the worksheet module, probably a Worksheet_Change event procedure, or perhaps Worksheet_SelectionChange.
