    Preview mode corrupted? (Vista)

I have a problem with Windows Photo Gallery where you click on Start, you see a small pop up window, on the left hand side click on the Windows Photo Gallery, click on the picture and preview and it shows a blank, green screen on my monitor instead of a picture in preview mode. The other problem is click on Start, you see a pop up window where it shows your name, documents, pictures, music, games, etc on the right hand side of the window, click on pictures, it shows your picture folders, click on it to see your picture or pictures, then click on preview and it shows a blacked out screen for several seconds, then it shows a preview picture after that with the error that says Display driver stopped responding and has recovered with the word nvlddmkm.
What can be done to fix these problems? It did not do this before and previews worked just fine until yesterday. Thanks

That's a Nvidia video driver issue. What graphics card, or onboard? are you running? And what is the version of your video drivers you have installed? FYI, it would appear that this is a widespread problem, not that knowing that is of any consolation. <IMG SRC=http://www.the-highway.com/Smileys/giggle.gif>

Pilgrim, I thank you for the response to my problem, forgive me, that I do not know what they are or where to look for the information. Perhaps you could lead me. I even put these words into Search database and came up empty handed.

    - Right-click on your Desktop and choose: "Personalize"

    - Click on the "Display Settings"

    - Click on the "Advanced Settings" button

    - Click on the "Adapter" tab, if it isn't already active

Post the information you see there or a screenshot of that window.

Pilgrim, I went back to the section where you mentioned to get the information and lurked around there and as I told you that the Vista is a 32 bit resolution and it was set on 16 bit, so I changed it to 32 bit and went back to windows gallery and tried it again, it did not do that anymore, only that when i clicked preview, it did not just pop up the preview, it just like zoomed in a little bit to preview mode. Is that the way it is supposed to be? Or should I go back to 16 bit? Looks like this was the culprit.

    1) You should be running at 32-bit.

    2) The "resolution" will depend upon the size and type of monitor you have, e.g., a LCD monitor (17"-19") should be set at 1280x1024, unless you have a widescreen. If you have a CRT type, then generally, 1024x768 is typical.

    3) The latest Nvidia drivers for your graphics card can be found here: ForceWare Version: 158.24.

    4) First download the new drivers, uninstall your current drivers in the Control Panel, "Add and Remove Programs" applet, reboot and then install the new drivers.... and reboot.

Report back and let us know if things have improved.
