Change & retain view & zoom settings (Word 2000, SR1)

We have a user who has asked if there's any way to open a Word document, change the View and Zoom settings, and have these new settings retained for the next time the document is opened. From what I've tried, a document seems to revert to its original settings, but the changed settings are reflected when in the new blank document when Word is re-opened. My best-guess solution at the moment is to attach a macro to run on opening the document to change the settings at that time.( I have not yet tested to see if copying the document (except for the last para mark) into a new document with changed view & zoom would work.)

    Thanks for any suggestions

    Hi Lynn,

If the user is opening the document and changing only the View/Zoom settings then these are not being saved.

Word doesn't see environmental changes, such as a change in the View/Zoom, as a change to the document so the Save doesn't actually take place. They need to dirty the document for these types of settings to be saved. The easist way is to press the <Spacebar> and then <Backspace> prior to saving the document.

For new documents open Normal.dot and make the change there.

Thank you - Word works in mysterious ways.
