    Uninstall 7, install 6 ?? (IE7 with XP Pro)

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

I would like to replace IE 7 (current version, fully patched) with IE 6. Does anyone have any experience or warnings? Potential problems? Works fine? This from Microsoft implies that it works OK: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/...y/ie/iefaq.mspx
    Thanks

It is possible, but I would strongly recommend against it. Internet Explorer 7 is much more secure than Internet Explorer 6, and it's quite possible that newly found security holes will not be patched any more in IE6. If you don't like the new features such as tabbed browsing, you don't have to use them.

If you are un happy with IE 7, you might want to try I.E.7 Pro It really enhances IE 7.
    Thanks John

Many thanks to you both. I can see I tried to be too brief. There's no doubt that IE 7 is the more secure browser, but it cripples Eudora's option of using the "Microsoft Viewer", thwarting the really nice feature of scaling the display fonts in emails (using control+scroll wheel on the mouse). Moreover, some emails print in large type (contrary to what appears in Print Preview) and I've found no way of correcting this. Eudora crashes frequently when IE 7 is active, so I've switched to Firefox. IE is now needed only for Microsoft's updates, and I figure IE 6 will work just as well for that.

Hans, I understand your warning to be about security, not system instability. Right? And thanks again for your comments.

You should be able to go back from IE7 to IE6 without problems, as far as I know.

As Hans has stated it will work, as long as IE 6 has been on this machine before IE7 was installed.
There should be a "Remove entry" of IE 7 listed in the "Add and remove" of the Control Panel".
By running the remove, IE 6 will be reinstalled. You will then have to get all IE^ updates from Windows Update.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
