Boot Up - Drives not found (Media Center 05, SP2)

Well, after I opened up my computer and did the annual cleaning of dust from it , it gives a message:

"Drive 4 not found: Parallel ATA, PATA-0, Primary IDE Master
Drive 5 not found " " ,PATA-1 Primary IDE Slave

Strike F1 to continue,F2 to enter Setup."

When I enter Setup Drive 1 (HD) is selected ON, Drives 2 & 3 are OFF, and Drives 4 & 5 are ON.

And the Samsung DVD-ROM drive and the Phillips DVD-RW drive don't work and aren't found in the Control Panel/System/hardware nor under My Computer.

Do you think that these drives are Drive 2 & 3 and somehow the system switched them off??

    Any help appreciated, Thanks, Kit

The first thing I would do is to go back inside the box and try to reseat and look for loose cable plugs, both data and power types. Look for anything that may have been disturbed by the dusting out procedure.
Check both on the motherboard and the rear of the disk drives themselves.

It almost a certainty that something was disturbed by as result of the clean out. <img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15>

Reopened the case and guess what? The ribbon cable from my DVD-RW drive pulled loose ( the case opens like a book). Reattached, works good.

    Thanks.
