Windows Explorer Crashes (XP SR-2)

Over the last few weeks, my Windows Explorer has starting crashing every time I use it. I'm not even sure what causes the crash, but I have to blow it away with Task Manager and then it sends an error report. I can only use it for a few minutes before it crashes. I think it happens when I open some files, especially JPGs, but it happened today when trying to veiw the contents of a CD. Is there some way to repair Explorer or reinstall it? Thx.

Have you tried to do a System Restore to a time before the problem began ???

If Doc's suggestion doesn't work out, then you can do a REPAIR reinstall of Windows, which will also reinstall WE.

There is a step by step outline on doing a REPAIR reinstall HERE

It may be a bit too late for system restore. I use Norton's Go Back, and that only saves about 3 days' worth of data. I turned off Windows System Restore. That never worked very well anyway. Even thought there were a ton of dates from which I could select a restore, Windows always told me that I couldn't restore to that date. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. I will check out the Repair Windows guidance. I was hoping that there was some way to do a "repair" (like I have to do now and then on Word).

Windows REPAIR reinstall is a painless way to get the system back working again. You lose none of your apps or settings but only does a repair on system type files, including WIndows Explorer.

Just make sure you choose option on the second screen repair, not the one on the first.
