    Router with timed settings

I has been using a Linksys 2.4 Wireless G router (WRT54G) and the parental control timing had stopped working after a firmware upgrade and I wasn't able to go back. Anyway, I bought a new Netgear router bec. the store said it had parental controls, but it only has web site blocking.

Is there a modem brand that will allow me to turn on and off PC's on the network based on the PC IP or MAC address?

    Thanks

    Re: Router with timed settings

My Netgear modem/router has blocking which can be tied in with a scheduler - do you have that facility? (You can probably put in a wildcard that would effectively block all sites.)
It also allows a trusted IP address to bypass the schedule if needed.

    Edited to add:
I've just noticed that the Firewall rules are the way to go if you can - you simply block all access through the firewall by IP address with or without the scheduler.

Thank, but I'm not looking to block addresses, but to fully turn off the internet to several pc's at night, then back on again in the morning.

By blocking access to all websites, would you not be restricting internet access?

Hmmm, good point, but with the scheduler, would it turn off ability to IM and email too though?

It should do, they are both 'on the internet', otherwise it wouldn't be a very good firewall!

I ended up returning the new router and went back to my old one and it no longer cuts off and on. I'll have to figure something else out with the scheduling though.
