    Distributing Macros (Word 2003)

    Good Morning,

I have a template that contains multiple macro and auto text entries. I have verified that these items are attached to the template and not the Normal.dot. At the bottom of the form I have added custom macro buttons that display the autotext entries and activate a macro when they are clicked on.

When I place the template in a shared folder the macro buttons are not accessible to the other users. The auto text and macros are still attached to the template but cannot be activated because there are no buttons and the form is protected.

    I am using a variation of: {MACROBUTTON envelopeprint { AUTOTEXT envelope}}

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time using Macro buttons.

    Warm Regards,
    SMEE

P.S. I did do a search on this topic but was unable to find a thread that discussed this type of macrobutton.

    Hi SMEE,

If I understand your issue, I think you need to put your macro buttons in an unprotected part of the form. Try inserting a same page section break immediately in front of the macro buttons and not protecting that section, and see if that works.

    Best,
    Kim

MacroButtons should still work in a document protected for forms. Are you sure that the other users enable macros? If they have macro security set to high, macros will be disabled automatically.

    Hi Kim,

When I click the macro button it activates a macro that unprotects the form, performs the action and then reprotects the form. It works great on my own computer.

    Thanks,
    SME

    Hi Hans,

You always seem to be around when I need help =).

I place the form in a shared folder and then log in to the computer using a different log in. I open the form from the shared folder (the warning comes up asking me to accept the macros and I say yes) and the macro buttons are completely gone.

    Thank you,
    SME

Strange. What happens if you (temporarily) replace the AutoText field with literal text, for example

    {MACROBUTTON envelopeprint testbutton}

I took out the autotext and just put the text as you suggested. No change. Would it assist you if I attached the form? I'm not sure if the macro buttons would go with it though.

    Thanks,
    SME

I don't know if it will help to attach it, but it's worth a try. You cannot attach a template directly, so you'll have to zip it and attach the zip file. First remove proprietary or sensitive information, if any.

By golly, you're right as always, Hans.

You can't run a macro using Tools > Macro, so I made an inaccurate assumption. And the macros work without a hitch, even if I'm prompted with the Enable Macros dialog.

SMEE, does one run this template from the file > new dialog, or from a macro?

    Re: Distributing Macros (Word 2003)

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
The macro buttons, 3 of them, are supposed to be right above "Client Confidential". The buttons are 3 pictures. I also left the test button in and that should be to the right of the 3 pictures.

    Thank you,
    Summer

The macro buttons are there for me, and they work OK. So your template does work on other PCs...

    Re: Distributing Macros (Word 2003)

I'm glad it worked for you but now I am really confused.
I will go back and triple check all the security settings and run a few more test. I must be missing something.
Thank you for all of your help. I hope you don't feel as if I wasted your time. I'm glad to know the form worked for you. It must be user error on my part.

    Warm Regards,
    SME

    Re: Distributing Macros (Word 2003)

Hey - the macrobuttons are formatted as hidden text. If Word has been set not to display hidden text on-screen, you won't see the macrobuttons!

    BINGO!!!!!
It's always the small details that escape me. Thank you so much for all of your help Hans, and for your continuing patience.
