    change file extension (Vista)

For some reason, I am unable to e-mail a file whose extension is .exe to my friend . Therefore, I changed the file extension to .doc. My friend knows how to rename a file. However, he has tried many times and each time he renames the extension to .exe, it stays as .doc. He has Vista. (I do not.) Is there something in Vista that prevents changing a file extension or does Vista have another way of changing a file extension?
    Thank you very much.

Many mail applications block .exe attachments for security reasons. Try zipping the .exe and sending the zip file.

I'll try that. However, my friend did receive the file, with the .doc extension. Does Vista prevent a file extension change?
    Thanks,

I don't understand why it wouldn't be possible to change the extension back from .doc to .exe, but then, I don't have Windows Vista.

Thank you for responding. I expect to be at my friend's house in the next few days and I'll see if I can change it.

I can't understand the problem either, but if your friend still has the original email, right click on the file attachment and "Save as". This should let him/her to save the file with the correct extension.

On my Vista machine I change back and forth between test.exe and test.doc in exactly the same way as I can on my XP machine. I can't see any difference.
