Cannot start Excel (2000)

When I try to open Excel, I get the following error:

EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Widnows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

I have no idea where to find the error log, nor do I have a clue what is going on.

All other office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) work fine. My machine was acting a little query lately, so I did a full check disk, which found some errors.

Any idea where the log file is or what might be wrong?

    Thanks!!
    Troy

Didn't Windows offer to phone home to Microsoft - that's where you'd be able to view the error log.

No it did not. I know what you are talking about and have seen that in other situations. This was different. That is what makes me think a log file was generated somewhere on my PC.

I'll try to do a global search and see if I can find it that way, but I have a big hard drive, so it might take a while.

I wouldn't bother with searching for the error log - it's probably a list of hexadecimal addresses that is only useful to a Microsoft technician.

Have a look for a folder here:

Cocuments and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsDrWatson

    containing a log file.
Otherwise, you could look at the Event Viewer in Adminstrative Tools in Control Panel - look at the Applications section.

If you don't have a compiled listing of the Excel source code, the log file is going to be useless to you. It is meant for use bu Microsoft programmers.

Follow <!profile=pietrerse>pietrerse<!/profile>'s suggestions in this <!post=Star Post,290,455>Star Post<!/post> as Hans suggested, particularly those conserning files in XLSTART.
