WXP and Excel (XP & Exl 2003)

I am working on a Dell Latitude D620 Laptop, with a Centrino Duo processor and a gig of ram, configured by our syst admin. Not much room for me to do my own customizing (even if I knew how).

My question is, how can I free system resources so that when I'm working on a 50mgb excel file, excel will move a little faster. The wait time is killing me .

Thnaks in advance for any advice you can provide...

50 MB is pretty large for an Excel workbook - a delay while loading or recalculating it is to be expected.
See Decision Models for some info and tips on optimizing Excel, and a (commercial, i.e. non-free) utility that may help finding the bottlenecks.
