Saving explorer settings (XP Professional, Version 5.0, SP2)

When opening Windows Explorer, I like to see Folders, List, Details.
Gives me more information about all in the computer.
I get it to display List at opening, but when i click to open a folder or other item (a USB drive, for instance), it switches to icons.
It is very irritant, having to go back to menu, and change the selection AGAIN every time.
IF it exists, could please someone help with the way to set this view (for once), and save it?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

Set a folder the way you want.
Then select Tools | Folder Options...
    Activate the View tab.
Locate "Remember each folder's view settings" in the list of Advanced Settings and clear its check box.
Click the button "Like Current Folder".
