I have a laptop that i shut down inproperly one time, and now every time i boot it up it goes into scandisk just after the bios loads. it takes about an hour for the scandisk to finish and everythiong works properly after that, but i have started it up many times and every time it goes right into scandisk. can anyone help with this problem??

Joe,..Thanks for the quick response. I after typing the first string you gave me in the cmd prompt i received a reply stating that it couldn't lock the disk because it was a fat 32 disk. however it allowed me to set for checkdisk and i rebooted and am running it now as we speak. after it runs and boots up i will run the second string you gave me and see if it will show me any errors.

I ran the second string you gave me joe and it said that c disk was not dirty. I rebooted again and it still goes to scandisk.

See if Chkdsk (Check Disk), ChkNTFS, and Autochk (Auto Check) helps. Note the section about checking autochk registry entries.

I checked my reg and found that is is already set to exclude the c drive from being checked by chkdsk it is set at "/k: C:*" But it atill checks it when rebooting, thats odd. I also tried the "chkntfs /x C: " command but it just tells me that it is not a ntfs drive and doesn't do anything further.
