    Turn off Subtitles (Vista Ultimate)

    Hi

In Windows Media Centre - Live TV is there anyway to turn off the subtitles, according to the help it says click S but there is no S as far as I know on any version of Vista Media Centre. Maybe a registry hack?

    Regards

Does the "To use subtitles while watching TV" section at http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/e...ec7a921033.mspx help?

    Or this at Techguy?

    Hi Leif

Not really where these instructions say scroll to tasks/settings/TV there is no TV to click on, I was hoping there might be registry hack.

    Regards Braddy

To set a Teletext page to display when the MUTE button is pressed:

    1. On the start screen, scroll to Tasks, and then click settings screen.

    2. Click TV and then click Subtitle.

    3. Click Off, On, or On when muted.

    4. If On when muted is selected, enter the page number in the entry box provided on the screen.

    Braddy,

Your problem may be more serious than just a subtitle issue. I too have Vista Ultimate, but unlike you, "TV" is an option on my "Settings" screen. Perhaps you may want to look into reconfiguring Media Center.

    Cheers,
    Regards,

    Hi Paul

I am not sure how to reconfigure Media Center, my Windows Vista came pre-installed so I don't have a disk to re-install. I don't appear to have the facility to rescan even.

Yes, I can see your dilemma. Has your vendor's tech support been of any assistance?

Most vendors let you buy a recovery DVD for a nominal amount or provide a method for you to burn a DVD from a recovery partition. But you need to be careful about recovery DVDs as they may only allow you to restore the system to how it came from the factory and not necessarily allow a repair installation. BTW, I think you should still be able to do an SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt.

    Hi Joe

Thanks for the reply, I have already tried the SFC /SCANNOW but no luck, I will just update anybody looking at this, I uninstalled the Acer Arcade De Lux and low and behold the the TV appearded in the listings, this did not achieve anything because when I tried to scan for signals I got the message you do not have a TV hardware card when clearly I do, because I had been watching TV before removing Acer Arcade, This seems to be more trouble than it's worth I shall just buy a DVB-T USB stick.

    Thanks to all who replied

Re: Turn off Subtitles (Vista Ultimate)

    Hi

Just a follow up to this problem, I thought this would give a result (see below), it does as far a now being able to see the TV icon, but even after turning off subtitles they are still there in in TV Joy. As of yet I have had no response from Acer.

    Regards

    Braddy

Acer software disables the TV functionality of the Vista Media Center.
fix this by editing the registry:

    Goto
    ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWin dowsCurrentVersionMedia CenterStart Menu:

    Change "HideTV" value to 0

you should then be able to see the tv option in tasks
