Pst recovery (Outlook SR1)

I went to open Outlook and it showed a shell outline of the program but no inbox which is normal. A box was visible that said create a new profile or (not sure) something about recovery of files. I navigated the Hdrive to the pst file Outlook.pst clicked on it to recover and nothing happened. I rebooted the computer and got the same message. Created a new profile and tried to bring in the pst with the same results. Originally I brought all the data into a new computer and have never needed the pst before so maybe that could be the problem? My pst is 14 mb and I have a few years documentation. If there is any hope to recover I would be grateful.

first thing - make a copy of the pst - then search for scanpst.exe and run it on the pst.

clicking on the pst normally won't open it or load outlook, it needs to be in a profile.

not sure what you mean by this but the normal procedure is to create a profile and open outlook - if you have an old pst to use, either set it up in the profile or file > open > personal folders.

The scanpst.exe (inbox repair tool) fixed the errors in the original pst file, following your instructions. Went to the newly created profile and can't remember but think I imported the original repaired Outlook.pst. I have all the missing files in Personal Folders. All the folders and files(created in the past 2 days) are under Outlook Today-Personal Folders. I would like to delete all the Today folders but am hesitant to mess with anything. I can't thank you enough for the information on scanpst that made the pst operable. What a great web site!!! Thank you Mary J

if you have more than one pst and they are not identical (as seen in view > folder view), first copy the items from one pst to another. Then right click on the pst name you want to remove and choose "close"
