    Can't Share Contacts (2003 SP 2)

Each member of my team has access to a central mailbox that we monitor. I am using this "central" account's Contacts to store common distribition lists.

The problem is that when we compose a message, our *personal* contacts show up, but contacts in the central account do not. I've seen some suggestions about activating the "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" option, but I can't find that option in the Contact properties and the "Sharing..." option for Contacts in the central mailbox is grayed out/unavailable. How do I go about getting the necessary option enabled so that I can make the central Contacts appear as part of my Address Book?

If the option doesn't show when you right click the Public Folder Contacts Folder and select Properties | Outlook Address Book tab | Show ..., try this - select the Public Folder Contacts Folder, right click it and select "Add to Favorites"; it should then appear in "Other Calendars" in the Navigation Pane of your personal Calendar View. See if you can add it an Address Book from there, via right click | Properties, etc. If that doesn't work you'll have to discuss with your Exchange Server team. (I can't find a Contacts Folder in my corporate Public Folders to test on your behalf - the company uses Global Address Groups for the kind of purpose you describe.)

Thanks for the advice John. It didn't work but it did the next best thing, which is clue me in that this is probably not something I can fix/do on my own: when I right click the Contacts folder for the account, the "Add to Favorites" option, she is not even there (not grayed out, but completely missing).

From what I've seen of this company in my six weeks on the job, a lot of stuff is put together with spit and baling wire. My guess is that this central account we all have access to is not, in some way, set up correctly OR our access to it is not set up the way it needs to be for this purpose. Now it's a question of whether I want to pursue it any further or just go with option number 2.

There may be a Public Folder Permissions setting for this folder that the Exchange Server Administrator can change, but I do not know the Exchange Server Admin side. Good luck with the spit and baling wire crew! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
