File management window views (Windows XP)

I prefer to use the DETAILS view in my FILE OPEN, FILE SAVE etc. windows. The DETAILS view gives vertical scrolling which I find easier to use.

However, many of my programs default to the LIST view, which scrolls horizontally left to right.

Is there a place in Windows (registry etc.) where I can set these file manipulation windows to open by default in LIST view?

    Thank you for your help!!!

At Kelly's Korner she has this link: File-Ex File Dialog Extensions. I think I'll go have a look-see also.
