    Printing envelopes (W2000/Win98SE)

When I go to print an envelope, the default feed method in Printing Options is not suitable so I have to change it every time. How can I set the feed method so that the default is to the envelope orientation that I use?

I take it you are not using WOPR's enveloper.

You may want to simply prepare an envelope template that prints the way you want.

For more help, what kind of printer? What steps are you going through now to:
    1) generate the envelope?
    2) change printer options?

If immediately upon printing the envelope you try to print another envelope, do the options stick?

    Re: Printing envelopes (W2000/Win98SE)

I have exactly the same question. Whenever I use Word's built in Envelope utility, I need to change the orientation of the envelope in my printer (Epson Stylus, but I think I have had this with others) for it to print correctly. No problem, but I'd like the new orientation to stay as the default. Word seems to tell me that it has changed the orientation, but it lies. The next envelope I do, either in the same session or not, has the old orientation. Any tips?

Do you have the latest printer driver for your printer?

    Hi John,

Word stores this information in the Registry. So if you don't have the necessary permissions to change the Registry or if your profile is locked down then that would explain it.

If this isn't the case then I've found that occasionally you need to do a little "massaging" to get these to stick.

Exit Word and in the Registry drill down to:

    97: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice8.0Word<Pr interName>
    2000: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0Word<Pr interName>

On the right there should be a string value named EnvFeed_4 or EnvFeed_7. (I'm not sure about the specifics on this. I believe part of this depends on your printer)

If there isn't one, create it and set the Value data to something like 3.

Usually I find the EnvFeed_4 exists but is set to "". In this case, change the value data to 3.

Restart Word and modify the envelope position. Exit, restart and see if it sticks.

TOO EASY! Did the edit to the registry and after a bit of trial and error, Word now prints the envelope how I want it by default.
    Thanks.
