Highlighting (Vista Ultimate)

I think this is a Vista Aero issue but it may be Thunderbird related. If so, please move to appropriate forum.

When I select (click) an email in the Content Pane in Thunderbird, the message line is highlighted in blue. I can easily identify which message I am dealing with. (See top graphic... I'm talking golf here.)

If I then click in the Message Pane (e.g. a link in the email), or in the Folder Pane, the selected message line in the Content Panel loses its highlighting and it is a little more difficult to identify which message is being dealt with. (See bottom graphic... Hmmm, golf or work?)

Is there any way to set an alternate color for a selection that no longer has the focus as was possible under XP (and in Vista, I believe, if you select classic views).

Cheers,
Regards,
PaulB

Paul,

I just tried what you were doing in Outlook 2007 and Windows Mail and the focused (highlighted) e-mail line changed from blue to a medium gray, which I found still stood out and easy to recognize. So, I would have to conclude that the problem is with Thurderturd and not Vista. As far as changing the highlight color, I would say that IF that was an option, it would be something in Thurderturd itself.

Oh for sure it is biased! I do like Outlook 2007 indeed! However, my response was totally sincere and purposed to try and help by providing the little "test" I did, duplicating yours to see how the highlight color would change when off focus. The result, hopefully will at least indicate that your issue is not to be found in the O/S but in the application of your choice.

I am using Windows Mail on my lap top, and the selected highlight turns to a light gray from the blue, but is still visible.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I'm running Vista Ultimate at home and both Outlook 2007 and Windows Live Mail Beta act in the manner DaveA described in <post:=662,387>post 662,387</post:>. Have you changed any of the color settings? Perhaps Thunderbird interprets the color pallette differently than othe Windows apps do.

Re: Highlighting (Vista Ultimate)

Thanks for the replies. I am now leaning towards this being an application issue. The only change I have made to the color palette is to go from the default Window Color and Appearance (in Personalize) to Graphite with transparency. Reverting to the default does not change anything in Thunderbird.

Curiously, no Thunderbird users have responded. Could someone move this thread to the "Other Browsers & Email Clients" forum? Perhaps some Tbird user has resolved this issue.

Thanks,
Regards,
PaulB

Have you tried turning transparency off? Have you experimented with the classic appearance properties?

Re: Highlighting (Vista Ultimate)

Joe,

I did try it with transparency turned off. It made no difference. Neither did trying other Aero colors help. I haven't tried classic appearances as I want to stick with Aero. I can live with this issue, but a solution would be nice.

I didn't mean use the classic appearance but just the applet to do some finer grained testing with color settings. I don't know if changing something with the classic applet with cause Aero to be disabled but I wouldn't think so.

Re: Highlighting (Vista Ultimate)

Joe, I had looked into that before. You can chose the highlight color (Color 1) for "Selected Items" but not Color 2. There does not seem to be a choice for selected items without focus. Note also the caveat that this applet may only apply to Classic color schemes.
