    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    - Press Alt+F11 to activate the Visual Basic Editor.
    - Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window.
    - Type the following line or copy/paste it:

    CommandBars("Menu Bar").Visible = True

    - Click anywhere in that line and press Enter.
    - Press Alt+F11 to return to Word.

You should now see the menu bar again. Select View | Toolbars to display the toolbars you want to see (Standard and Formatting are the default ones).

When I tried that, I got a runtime error.

Try the steps in Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word,197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>.

Can you press Alt-T to get the tools menu, then C to get the Customize option, then choose Toolbars and check the box for Menu bar?

    Re: Menus gone (Office 2000)

Nothing happens when I press Alt+T and I get a run time error when I try the Alt+F11 fix. I uninstalled Office and reinstalled it thinking it would help, but it is the same. Perhaps there is a config file somewhere that could be deleted and it would rebuild itself with the default when I start Word. Where is the config file for word?

    Thank you,
    Len

There isn't one "config file", but if you follow the advice that HansV gave you above, and try Phil Rabichow's Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word then this will help you to find all the possible sources of this problem and eliminate each of them.
