    vlookup problem (xp & 2003)

I am trying a vlookup function on the attached wrksht. tab "dcseniority" has the vlookup function on column "L". The array for this lookup is on tab "EETD403" cell B2 to cell G283. I tried the trim function but it is not working.

    any insight

They are array functions due to "trimming" the entire lookuptable.

Select cell L2 and press <f2> to get into edit mode than ctrl-shift-enter.

    The copy L2 to L3:L52.

Better still (to avoid sluggishness) would be to trim all the items in 'EE TD403'!$C$2:$G$283 (you can use formulas starting in H and copying then paste-special into the original range. Once they are all trimmed then the Vllokup formulas no longer need to have the TRIM in this range.

As far as I can tell, you don't need the TRIM function here. =VLOOKUP(C2,'EE TD403'!$C$2:$G$283,5,FALSE) works as well as the version with TRIM.
    What exactly is your problem?
