Numlock On (XP SP-2)

What controls the Numlock being On/Off?

'Cause when I start up, it's on, and/but when I log out / log in I have to turn it on manually.

Is there a way to set it on "auto"?

Regards,
Chuck Billow

Leif:

Aren't both group policies and startup commands dependent on being logged in?

The issue I'm having is that when I (a user) logs out, or upon start, comes to the log in screen, the num lock is off... If my log in is automatic, which it normally is, the num lock gets turned on during the startup process.

Did <post#=568,202>post 568,202</post#> and replies not help? - you didn't answer!

Did you follow all the links, including the additional links on the MSKB articles, and try those suggestions?
Did you set NumLock to be on in the BIOS?

(I don't think Group Policies are applicable in this instance.)

I'm sorry... my mind fogged over from lack of sleep I guess... I did look, but I'll try again today to see what I missed...

Often there is the option in the BIOS to have the NumLock key either on or off when the machine starts by default.

Jeff:

See Leif's post (above)... It worked great for me -- and I had no BIOS adjustment for this...

That's OK.

BTW - what was the actual procedure that solved your issue?

Re: Numlock On (XP SP-2)

Leif:

It was the referral to <post#=568202>post 568202</post#> , from which, I was referred to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=154529.

From there, as explained therein; it's a two or so line regedit (that I afterwards exported and saved), that puts Num lock in an "On" state as soon as Windows starts up.

I dunno why MS didn't build that one in?!

Thanks,
Chuck Billow
