Outlook error & fails to start (2007)

I desperately need help to resolve this issue... Upon opening Outlook (with Business Manager-though not currently using) the program attempts to load but I get an error "A data file did not close properly the last time it was used & is being checked for problems. Performance might be affected while the check is in progress" This has been coming up for awhile but didn't affect anything. Now however, I can't even get it to stay open.
I've tried:
Microsoft Tools / Diagnostics - didn't help.
Repairing from disk
Uninstall / Re-install - (completeOffice 2007)...still get the message, ...puzzling

I have set up my email on another computer, otherwise I would not even be able to access it.
If anyone, anywhere knows of this issue, and the resolution for it I sure could use it.

This site has always been a great source for technical info. It was recommended by an instructor of an Excel class that I took (in 2002.) You have provided solutions for me many times through the years.
I hope you can this time.

Thanks!

I can't even keep Outlook open long enough to follow the instructions listed.

See if you can start Outlook as follows:

- First, make sure that there are no instances of Outlook running, by looking at the Processes tab of the Task Manager.
- Select Start | Run...
- Type
outlook /noextensions

- Press Enter.

This will attempt to start Outlook without loading extensions.

There should be a space between outlook and /noextensions.

'outlook /noextensions' did begin to open the program but it immediately closed just as it has been doing

Did you run the Inbox Repair Tool on your .pst file(s)? (See Scan and repair corrupted Outlook data files)

You could try creating a new e-mail profile in the Mail control panel. Don't connect to the existing .pst files yet, let Outlook create a new one. If you manage to get this working, you can try opening an old .pst file to see if you can transfer e-mails, appointments etc.

Try

'outlook /safe'

Did you clean your PST(s) with the "Inbox Repair Tool" - scanpst.exe?

Re: Outlook error & fails to start (2007)

Thank You!!
I was able to get into the program.
I don't even remember all the things I checked - and backed up. But when I followed the original instructions about
testing the 'AddIns', then I was able to open Outlook -(I am still getting the 'a data file was not closed properly...) message, but at least the program isn't closing out on me.
an 'ACT!' addin was the culprit in my case.

Once again I must say, the Lounge is the best tech support anywhere.
Thanks again.

<Outlook (with Business Manager-though not currently using) >
You might also look into your BCM, even though you are not using it you may have a profile that is corrupted and if that is the case you will need to create a new profile.
BCM is great but it has its oddities!
Thanks John
