Set a Default in a data-bound DropDownList (VS2005/SQL2005, .NET 2.0)
I have a working system - finally! that reads data from stored procs in SQL Server to some drop-downs on a page. I'd like to have the drop-downs not show the first item from the stored proc but the standard [Select Your Name] etc. I am not sure how to do this but would GREATLY PREFER not having to insert the default select prompt in the db table.
Also, I have a datagrid that I'd like to re-use on three different drop-downs and would like some hints on how to pass a param to a stored proc that will allow me to build a SELECT CASE in the stored proc to find the data for the grid based on the particular drop-down accessed.
I am pretty much a newbie to ASP.NET but have years of experience in ASP classic and VBA, FWIW.
