    Intel ViiV (Vista Home Premium)

    Help please

I've been getting a few errors saying

"windows host process (rundll32) has stopped working"

I then get a pop-up box (see attached file) saying

Problem caused by Intel ViiV software update for HP.

If I click on the link, I get to an HP page saying

    Release Date: 2007-07-17 Version: 03.28.2007

Intel ViiV Software update resolves lmpgd10.ax or lmpgspl.ax errors reported by Rundll32.exe when copying media files of MPG or MPEG format.

    Fixes

Resolves lmpgd10.ax or lmpgspl.ax errors reported by Rundll32.exe when copying media files of MPG or MPEG format.

Step 2: Does your system meet the following?

Operating system(s): Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

    Download file size: 949.73k

    System Requirements

You must be logged on as an administrator to install this update.
You must have a ViiV-enabled HP product with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate (32-bit).

If I download the fix and run it, I get an error saying

"Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has beeen cancelled. (9996)"

I did not knowingly install Intel ViiV in the first place. I do have a HP scanner and therefore some HP software, this may be the source of the problem. But I cannot find a way to pose a question on the HP website. Google doesn't help me much, and I can't find anything in this group.

    Wikipedia telss me that

Viiv (IPA: ['vaɪv], rhymes with five) is a platform marketing initiative from Intel. Like Intel's Centrino and vPro, Viiv is a collection of computer technologies with a particular combination of Intel products as its primary components. It is ostensibly an open specification for an Intel-based Media Center PC. Intel's Channel Trademark License Agreement requires as a condition to the use of the Intel ViiV platform logo that Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update must be present on the system.

I have a self-built PC with an AMD chip[, so I really don't understand this at all.

    Can anyone help.

    Thanks

    Colin

Can you look in Control Panel > Add Remove Programs to see if you have the VIIV software installed, and if so try Removing it.

Re: Intel ViiV (Vista Home Premium)

A Google search for this error message got me to this page.

From what I can make out (using Google's translation) this person resolved the problem by renaming lmpgspl.ax and 1lmpgspl.ax in the system32 folder. If you do this then you may want to reinstall DirectX afterwards.

    Stuart

    Thanks

That seems to have done the trick, at least on some of the instances. Lets keep fingers crossed.

I wasn't able to re-install DirectX tho. As its Vista, DirectX10 is used, and apparently its an integral part of Vista. Not sure if I can re-install it on its own. I'll need to have a look.

    Thanks again

You could try a repair install. Then force the system to check for updates.

I haven't had any problems recently, so I'll leave it alone.

    Thanks anyway
