    Background repagination (2003 SP2)

Problem: Before saving and closing a document, the TOC is updated using F9. Upon opening the document, the TOC shows the same page number for all entries.

F9 updates the TOC page numbers, but this document is being sent to our customer electronically, and when they open it on their remote computer, we need to ensure that the TOC page numbers are correct without forcing the customer to use F9.

A search in the Word Forum indicated to try unchecking Tools>Options>General>Background repagination. This checkbox and text is grayed out on my copy of Word. How can I enable it, to see if this makes the problem go away?

Background repagination can only be turned on/off in Normal view or in Outline view, not in Print Layout view. In Print Layout view, Word always keeps pagination up-to-date, so background repagination doesn't apply there.

Thanks, Hans. Will try unchecking to see if it fixes the problem.
