    Big email merges (2000 sr1)

We are running periodic (more or less monthly) merges from Word 2000 using Access 2000/SQL Server 7 as a data source that generate about 25,000 email messages. Even if we set the option not to save outgoing email in the Sent Items folder, they still are. And if you try to delete all 25000 emails at once, Exchange Server 5.5 refuses. It will let you delete them a few hundred at a time. Has anyone out there experienced this problem? If so have you solved it?

I choose the Outlook forum since that is where we set the Save Outgoing messages option - if I picked the wrong one my apologies in advance. I'm a newbie you see.

I'm pretty sure there is a limit of 16,000 messages that can normally be stored in the sent items folder. When you hit this all sorts of strange things can happen. You've found one of them.

You can turn off saving of messages in sent items via Tools | Options | email options button. This might help. Otherwise, I think you'll need a program that scans the folder and deletes one by one.

Sorry - I guess I wasn't clear. We do have the saving of messages turned off in Tools | Options | email and the Word merge still saves the sent messages in the sent items folder.

Is there another relatively inexpensive alternative to the Word merge process?

Place your right hand on your mouse, and state loudly and unequivocally, "I will not use this software to Spam strangers." Then <A target="_blank" HREF=http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0,10150,0-10001-103-0-1-9,00.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-9.lst&qt=bulk+mail&>click here</A> to search downloads.com.

This one has an ODBC connector, appears to be supplied by a reputable source, and is free: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.msexchange.org/products/wizard.htm>HTML Broadcast Wizard</A>. No idea what kind of deposits it might make into your personal folders.

Thanks for the reply - it looks like the Exchange add-in will do the trick for sure. And no - no spamming - these are people who have all opted in. It's great to have a resource like this for sure. <img src=/S/bingo.gif border=0 alt=bingo width=15 height=22>
