Analysis Toolpak automatic translation (EXCEL 2003)

I don't know if someone had posted a question like the following. If so, please, refer to that thread. I didn't find any thread.

I'm working with Excel in spanish. So, the Analysis Toolpak is called "Herramientas para el análisis". And the functions avaiable are in spanish: e.g. WORKDAY() is called DIA.LAB(). My problem arises when I open a Excel file which has been built under the english version of "Analysis Toolpak". The Excel is supposed to recoignaise automatically the functions in english and execute them. BUT, it doesn't happen. I have to edit every cell (pressing F2 or else) and then pressing Enter as to be calculated (in that moment, Excel recognases the function).
Not only that, inside every function WORKDAY(), I have a external links which are evaluated every time I press enter and which refer to a file in a server (so, the communication is a bit slow). If I try replacing workday() for dia.lab(), it takes to Excel 3 seconds to replace "WORKDAY" for "DIA.LAB" and recalculate the cell. If u take in account that I have 200 sheets and at least 50 cells in each with this kind of replacement, well... you would imagine that it's useless to use the replacement option or something like this. I tried shutting down the automatic calculation (selecting manual calculation) and other things, but this didn't work. I'm desperate!! (hahahaha)

    Any ideas?

I hope you understand my english. Sorry for that.

    Kind regards,

    Federico.

Re: Analysis Toolpak automatic translation (EXCEL 2003)

This has always been a weak point in Excel until Excel 2007, where the Analysis ToolPak has been built in, so it should no longer suffer from localization problems.

There is a free add-in for Excel 97 to Excel 2003 that can translate the English Toolpak functions into other languages, among which Spanish. It is available from Analysis ToolPak Translator. I hope it will be useful.

Re: Analysis Toolpak automatic translation (EXCEL 2003)

    Hi Hans and Federico,

Hans, you probably don't remember, but I had the same problem a couple of months ago and you recommended the same add-in. I downloaded the add-in and found it straightforward and easy to use, but it did not resolve the problem entirely. The add-in reported finding 15 (I think) add-in functions that it translated from Spanish to English, and it reported success, but the file still had #NAME errors that were unresolved.

Eventually we sent the file to Microsoft Premier Support, which is reputed to be Microsoft's highest level of customer support. They wrote a utility specifically to update the functions in the file, but, as with the add-in, they could not resolve all the #NAME errors, and they didn't know why. They finally gave up and told me that they had tested the original file (the one I sent them) in the Spanish Language version of Excel and that did resolve the problem. They were unable to explain why the file worked with the Spanish Language version of Excel but failed with the English Language version even though all the formulas and functions had been translated.

So we installed a Spanish Language version of Excel and, sure enough, the file processed properly. It may be that ultimately you will need to install a Spanish Language version to fully resolve the issue.

    Hope this helps...
