    Bad Web Sites (Internet Explorer)

Is there a way to verify a web site is really what it appears to be? Be able to check the validity of a web site and/or internet safety, before you open it?

Not absolutely. However, the phishing filter in IE7 is a help but should not be considered a 100% relibale indicator. Under Tools | Internet Options check the Security tab and the Content tab & associated help for available controls.

Also there are programs that rate sites, some based on user reviews, and/or database test results. most do not stop a user from entering a dangerous site, but will alert you when you do, so you can navigate away from the offending domain.
