    View old HD

I recently gave up trying to keep an old old e-machine running. Before I trashed it I pulled the HD and am looking for a way to view and remove anything on that before that goes in the trash as well. It is an IDE connection.
Yes the HD is ok but it was the rest of the computer that was bad.
    Thanks John

I use a USB2.0 IDE Adapter. Don't recall exactly where i got mine, but you can get one very much the same from here for about $10. There is a more expensive version available here with some good pictures of how it's used. It's a way to connect a drive (HD, CD, DVD, notebook HD, etc) without an external enclosure. It's easy enough, if you open your present box and look for a spare IDE cable and power plug.
If you have all four of your IDE ports taken up, you could temporarily unplug one of them ( NOT the C Drive )
and sub the old HD there. make sure the masterslave pin settings are the same as the drive you removed.
Boot it back up and your system should see the sub drive and you can read and delete anything or whatever you want to salvage from the old drive.
When you are done, you can format the sub drive and or use a WIPE utility to permanently clean the drive.

Replace the drive with your existing one and you are done. If you care to, you could leave the sub drive in place IF you have a spare IDE port and just add it to the mix.
