Temporary Internet Files (Windows XP SP2)

Is there are reason not to delete all the files in a folder named:

Cocuments and SettingsCarolLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5JMZ9HHVN

It seems to be where Outlook Express is storing attachments that come to us with emails. Since those files are supposed to be temporary, isn't it unusual to have scores of files still in that folder?

    Thanks

The TIF will just fill up to what ever the limits set in your Internet Options are. The files will just stay there forever. You can certainly delete them if you wish.

In addition to Joe's reply, you can clear your cache (Temporary Internet Files) in IE6 using Tools | Internet Options in Internet Explorer or using the Internet Options control panel. See How to Delete the Contents of the Temporary Internet Files Folder. For IE7, use Tools | Delete Browsing History, or click Delete... in the General tab of the Internet Options control panel.

Interesting Hans I did that, and also checked clear online content. That ended up also deleting the attachments to any (all) incoming emails, so I was forced to restore everything from the Recycle Bin and will have to start over. ??

I don't understand that, but I don't know much about Outlook Express. Sorry for that!

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

There is a very good "FREE" tool called CCleaner(Crap Cleaner) that you can run periodically and clean all of the junk out. It is tailorable - so if it is cleaning out something you want to keep - it is easy to change.

The article: Temporary Internet FilesContent.IE5 filecannot be found - ITtoolbox Groups says that all attachments are downloaded into TIF when the e-mail message is downloaded. That might explain why all your attachments were deleted. However, I can not find any of the configuration options mentioned.
