    Dreamweaver and &

I have a very annoying thing happening in Dreamweaver MX.

I am required to place a link in the page similar to:

    ..../resize?sq=40&uid=570895963

This works fine and the links are found without a problem........BUT

I require the page to be validated to XHTML Transitional and when it sees the & in the URI it brings up about 5 errors for each link and will not validate...not a problem says Jezza I will convert the link to:

    /resize?sq=40&uid=570895963

    ...and it validates.....

but after save and a few revisions, Dreamweaver reverts the link to

    /resize?sq=40&uid=570895963 <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>causing it not to validate.

This is one of those frustrating aspects of Dreamweaver that it changes code. Has anyone else found this problem and is there a fix around it as I am frankly getting fed up during development stage having to change it all the time.[ggrr]

My only suggestions would be to validate only when you've finished the job, perhaps hand-coding the ampersand or & amp; as the final prevalidation step, or to see whether KompoZer has the same 'feature'. But beware that KompoZer will happily rearrange your HTML code lines unless you tell it not to (using Tools -> Options -> General -> When Saving or Publishing Pages, set radio button for Retain Original Source Formatting).

I don't have Dreamweaver MX 2004, only Dreamweaver 8, and anyway all known and future bugs are probably fixed in Creative Studio 3 (as they always are by any new software version!).

    Thanks John

I guess that will be the answer I will have to go for and one I will have to do as this is just one of those application "irritants"
