Standby on Group PC (XP SP-2)

If several people use the same computer, do you have to login as each user to set the pc so standby will NOT activate?

'Cause in our house, our base station (also used by 3 people) keeps going into stanby, even though I logged in and disabled standby. I thought I checked the other users too, but I guess not, 'cause it still turns itself "off", which then disables access to the had disk from other machines.

Is there any "global" way to control this type of thing?

Re: Standby on Group PC (XP SP-2)

I have found that the various power settings (Standby, Hibernate, various forms of turning off various pieces of equipment) on ordinary PCs are at best flaky and at worst incorrect. The newer the PC is, the more likely are the power settings to work better.

You can have Lots of Fun with the command-line utility POWERCFG (do POWERCFG /? to get screens-full of help info). Here is the BATch file that I use (with varying degrees of success depending on the PC make/model).
@echo off
powercfg /numerical /setactive 0
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /hibernate off
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /monitor-timeout-ac 0
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /monitor-timeout-dc 0
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /disk-timeout-ac 0
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /disk-timeout-dc 0
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /standby-timeout-ac 30
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /standby-timeout-dc 0
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /hibernate-timeout-ac 0
powercfg /numerical /change 0 /hibernate-timeout-dc 0
powercfg /query

Thanks John, I'll give it a shot.
