simple query from beginner (pp2003 winxp)

Today is the first time I am using powerpoint, so this will be the simplest query ever on this forum. I need each slide to wipe in the text from the left, bullet points one at a time, after individual mouse clicks. when I use custom animation, the whole slide wipe in together, and I cant see the option to have paragraphs come in one by one on cue. many thanks in advance - I should get up to speed on this 'new' programme soon. Frank

If you right click in the Custom Animiation pane, and select Effect Options, then you can set the option shown here.

Hi Stuart, my 'wipe' dialog box has no tab for text animation, only for 'timing' and 'effect'. The drop down menu has options for effect options and timing, both lead to the same wipe dialog box, but with only the two tabs. I have checked that this is PP2003, so I must be missing something somewhere. Thanks

I get the bahaviour you describe if the object is a graphic, and not text. Can you try creating a new slide and entering text into the default text frame to see if you can then get that to work properly.

I tried your advice but the same results - I tried with a brand new presentation, but still no luck. The text animation tab did not show up.

Make sure that the box with the bulleted text is selected when you set the custom animation.

Hi Hans, I tried with and without selecting all kinds of elements on the slide. However, it seems that in 'slideshow' view, the bullet points wipe in by mouse click the way I want by default. They do not do this when I use the 'play' button on the side bar. i still cant see why I am missing a tab in the dialog box - seems strange. Frank

The Play button in the Custom Animation task pane is just meant to give you a very quick idea of what the animation looks like, not a full and accurate representation of its behavior in slideshow view.

Re: simple query from beginner - Thanks

Thanks everyone for all your help. The problem has vanished now, although I can re-create it in the original .ppt file (which I got from someone else so maybe they gave it a custom twist...). Anyway, I have found my missing tab so all is well.
