Disable features introduced after (2003/SP2)

Good morning!

Hoping someone might be able to tell me where exactly to find the reg key for "Disable features introduced after" - I want to make sure it's turned off for all users.

Many thanks,

Violet

The setting itself is stored in the Settings value in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0WordDa ta key; this is a binary value that cannot easily be read or modified.
However, you can force the setting to be turned on or off when Word is started by creating the registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftOffice11 .0WordOptionsvpref

and creating a DWORD value named Word97Compat_120_2 in this key. Setting Word97Compat_120_2 to 0 turns off "Disable features introduced after Word 97" and setting it to 1 turns it on.

You could also run a macro when Word starts:

Sub AutoExec()
With Options
.DisableFeaturesbyDefault = True
.DisableFeaturesIntroducedAfterbyDefault = wd80
.OptimizeForWord97byDefault = True
End With
End Sub

Hi Hans

My name is Angie and I am looking after Microsoft Office while my colleague Violet is on maternity leave. I have a question about the Disable features introduced after (2003/SP2). We have this set as default now, thanks for your help on that. My question is, if a document comes in from outside, how do we force the disable features option on that document upon opening? I hope I make sense! Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Angie

Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

You could place the following macro in a module in Normal.dot:

Sub AutoOpen()
With ActiveDocument
.DisableFeaturesIntroducedAfter = wd80
.DisableFeatures = True
End With
End Sub

The name AutoOpen is obligatory - a macro of this name in Normal.dot will be executed when any document is opened.
