    Windows start up error

Windows 2000 Could Not Start Because the Following File is Missing or Corrupt: WinntSystem32ConfigSystem

The above error appears when I boot my computer. I have a Windows 2000 cd and tried to do a repair but it asks for an emergency disk. I made an emergency disk at work from another windows 2000 computer but it does not work. I did do some research on google but the message is not the same, the message on google appears as below:

"Windows 2000 Could Not Start Because the Following File is Missing or Corrupt: WinntSystem32ConfigSystemced "
Systemced does not appear on my computer, it's only system.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Re: Windows start up error

Can you start the machine in safe mode so you can see the drive? I've so seldom used W2K that I've not had this problem. I looked in THAT directory on my drive and the only thing I see that comes close is like this attachment. However, since the .ALT copy seems to get created at the same time, I imagine that if one is corrupt, the other probably will be also. How about copying that SYSTEM file from another machine (once again, IF you can get on this drive)?
