Access Page Wildcard Search (Access 2003)

I'd like to be able to enter a wildcard or wildcard + some text to
search text fields. So far I haven't had any luck using the ones
listed as ANSI-89 or ANSI-92 wildcards in the Access help files.

For example, if my notes field contains: "Hot Tamales yeah they're hot and we got em"

I'd like to use a criteria string with wildcards to find the record.
    Example Criteria String: Hot *

According to the help notes this should find any record with the word
Hot and any other number of characters.

I'm using Data Access Pages to call a query. In the criteria of the query I use:
    [Enter Text]
which brings up a box to enter the search text when the query is run.

    Any help is appreciated!!

    Thanks

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

If you want to search/filter with wildcards, you must use the keyword Like. Change the criteria to

    Like [Enter Text]

I tried using: Like [Enter Text]
When the dialog box came up I entered: h*
There are a number of records that are "hp".

    No results were returned.

    I also tried these strings: "h"*, *, h%, h_, h?, h!, h#, etc. - no results for any of these.

I created a data access page to test this. Using % as wildcard works for me. I entered h% in the dialog box and got all records I expected. You shouldn't place quotes around the text.

Re: Access Page Wildcard Search (Access 2003)

I also created a test DB to try this and it worked for me as well. I then went back to my "real" database and it still didn't work on my existing page after updating the Query that the page is based on. So I created a new Data Access Page using the modified query and it worked, hurray!!

I had thought that updating the Query would ripple through to the Page but it did not. That seems wrong to me. Am I going to have to recreate all my Data Access Pages (about 20 of them)? It seems to me that only the queries would need to be updated.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks for your help!!

Sorry, I don't know why updating the query doesn't affect your data access pages. If I edit and save the query, the data access page picks it up automatically.

By the way, Microsoft has more or less abandoned Data Access Pages, see for example What happened to data access pages?

You may not want to spend too much time on developing them.
