    Google search syntax

Sorry if this is the wrong board, but I don't know where else to ask.

Some research using Google suggests that you can use syntax like allintext; , or allinurl: and so on in searches to refine where Google looks for your search term. But I can't for the life of me see where on the Google site itself these things are documented. Do they publish a definitive list somewhere that I haven't stumbled upon, or is this just something that is passed on from internet user to internet user by a kind of oral tradition?

(Why I started looking for this was because I was getting irritated by searching for things that turned out not to be on the page that Google found for me, but only on pages linking to them. I wish there were a preference to turn that behaviour off.)

    Re: Google search syntax

I frequently use this StarPost advice to search for something that I want to restrict to a particular domain: <post:=411,859>post 411,859</post:>. The StarPost was about Microsoft, but I also use the technique for many other domains.
