    Help with formulas (2003)

    Attached is an Excel file with an existing formula for which I need an explanation. I understand what it is doing, just not how the condition part of the If statement works (OF(ISBLANK(J25),J25=" ").

    Secondly, I'm not sure how to create a formula that will give the needed message.

    Please see the attachment as my questions are listed there.

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Help with formulas (2003)

    =IF(OR(ISBLANK(J25),J25=" "),SUMPRODUCT(F25*H25),J25*F25)

    ISBLANK(J25) is true if J25 is empty.
    J25=" " is true if J25 contains a space.
    OR(ISBLANK(J25),J25=" ") is true if J25 is empty and also if it contains a space.

    (I don't think this does what you want, but I cannot judge that).

    Try this formula in N25:

    =IF(F25="","",IF(J25="","Estimate based on industry average","Customer estimated annual parts consumption"))

    Yes, the formula to display the appropriate message is correct.

    My other question was regarding the SUMPRODUCT(F25*H25)

    Is there a reason this calculation is used as opposed to simply F25*H25?

    Does SUMPRODUCT do something different in this case? I couldn't see that it did.

    No, I don't see any reason to use SUMPRODUCT here, you might as well use F25*H25.
